Second M-way accident victim dies

A second woman has died after a four-vehicle accident which closed the M6 in Lancashire for more than six hours.

Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway between junctions 32 at Broughton and 33 at Galgate in the early hours of Friday.

Victoria Pickering, 27, from Gosport, Hampshire, was declared dead at the scene and Zoe West, 34, also from Gosport, died on Saturday morning.

John Marr, 71, from Southampton, is in

a stable condition following surgery.

Witness appeal

It is understood a Mercedes Sprinter van was involved in a collision with the back of a lorry, followed by a Vauxhall Astra driven by Mr Marr and a Ford Escort driven by Zoe West in which Victoria Pickering was a passenger.

All the vehicles were travelling north when the accident happened shortly after 0100 BST.

The lorry driver and van driver received minor injuries.

The motorway between junction 32 and junction 33 was closed until 0800 BST on Friday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash.
