Man found with serious injuries

An elderly man has been found with serious head injuries by the side of a road in Somerset.

The 77-year-old was discovered near the junction of Nunney Road and Dommett's Lane, Frome, when he was found at about 1230 BST on Wednesday.

He was airlifted to Bath's Royal United Hospital for treatment where he is said to be in critical condition.

Dan Mountain, of Avon and Somerset Police, said the man's injuries were currently unexplained.

An appeal for witnesses has been made.
