Support Trimble, says business leader

Owen Lamont is calling for support for UUP leader

The President of the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce has called on the business community to stand behind the Ulster Unionist leader David Trimble.

Addressing more than 500 business leaders at the chamber's annual dinner on Wednesday night, Owen Lamont said Mr Trimble had demonstrated the very essence of leadership.

Mr Larmont said: "He needs help right now because I believe that all our politicians have taken flak, from time to time, sometimes rightly and most times not.

"I think that all the political parties have worked really hard over the last four or five years and I would like to say thank you to them.

In particular, you have to support the leader. The leader is trying to make some progress here and I support him and I think he needs support in these next critical few weeks," he said.
