Police believe Margaret Finlay may have been assaulted

A murder investigation has been launched in Bangor after a post-mortem examination was carried out on a woman's body found in the town.

Forty-nine-year-old Margaret Finlay's body was found in the County Down town on Monday.

Detectives say they believe Margaret may have been assaulted in the Bangor area within the last week.

They are trying to trace her movements in the days prior to her death and are appealing for information.

Magaret Finlay was from the Southwell Road area of Bangor.

DUP MLA Alex Easton, who chairs the local district policing partnership, described the news that she may have been murdered as "both shocking and distressing".

"My sympathy is with the family and friends of the bereaved," he said.

"I have been in discussions with senior police and am appealing for the police to have every assistance as they investigate this matter."
