Crash husband in tribute to wife

Barnesmore Gap
The accident happened at Barnesmore Gap

A man whose wife died in an accident at the scene of a previous car crash in Donegal has told an inquest she was one of the best people in the world.

Nellie Doherty, 78, was hit by her husband's car at Barnesmore Gap.

The Strabane couple had gone there to pray for a neighbour who had died in an accident two days earlier in June 2006. Her husband, Patrick, was turning the car when it was hit by another vehicle sending it back across the road, pinning her to the crash barrier.

At the inquest in Letterkenny on Wednesday, Mr Doherty said they had been together for 55 years and that he has nothing to live for following her death.
