Smoke plume caused by tyre fire

Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 1100 BST

A large plume of smoke filled the air over Glasgow city centre following a blaze in the Gorbals area of the city.

Firefighters were alerted after a large quantity of tyres caught fire on open ground on Caledonia Road just after 1000 BST.

Three fire appliances were called to the scene. The blaze was brought under control by 1100 BST.

A spokesman for Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said there were no suspicious circumstances.
