Venue chosen for UEFA tie

The UEFA Cup first leg qualifying tie between Rangers and Shelbourne will take place at Tranmere Rovers' Prenton Park.

The match was originally scheduled to be played at Shelbourne's ground in Dublin.

But fears about sectarian violence forced the League of Ireland side to seek an alternative, neutral venue.

Rangers and Shelbourne will now discuss the allocation of tickets for the 16,700 all-seater stadium in Birkenhead.

The Tranmere Chairman Frank Corfe said the English First Division club was delighted to help.

"Our pitch is in excellent shape and we are happy to stage the match."
