Tune in to see Sophie at lunchtimes on the BBC One O'clock news. She joined the BBC in 1992 as a trainee and since then she has worked as a reporter in radio and TV in Manchester, Yorkshire and Brussels. She then went on to present BBC Breakfast and the Six O'clock news.
What is the best bit of your job?
I can't choose a best bit - I love it all.
But the highlights are working as a team, the pressure of getting the one o'clock news on air particularly on big news days or when stories are breaking, the thrill of live TV and the great feeling of satisfaction when it all goes to plan.
What are you most proud of?
My family.
What's been your worst on-air moment?
Being summoned to the studio when Anna Ford lost her voice on air during the one o'clock news and told I had to take over from her.
I found myself being pushed into the seat next to Anna before I'd had time to put any make up on or brush my hair.
I then had to read the rest of the news bulletin looking somewhat ruffled.
The next day the papers were full of it...before and after pictures. I just had to laugh.

What would be your advice to people wanting to get into journalism?
Knock on every door, do plenty of work experience if you can, don't give up and if you want a career in TV news, make sure you're a journalist first and foremost.
How do you spend your free time?
I don't have any...as soon as I get home from work, my nanny leaves and I spend the rest of my time looking after my two small children.
So the other half of my day is children's tea parties, the playground, swimming lessons and the supermarket!
