School assistant held over texts

A female member of teaching staff has been arrested after sending inappropriate text messages to a pupil.

The 25-year-old, an assistant at a school in East Yorkshire, has also been suspended while police and council staff carry out an investigation.

She has been released on police bail while inquiries continue.

Humberside Police said: "We are aware of allegations and have now launched an investigation in conjunction with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council."

A spokesman added: "A 25-year-old Bridlington woman has been arrested and released on police bail pending further inquiries."

East Riding of Yorkshire Council confirmed the woman had been suspended.

A spokeswoman said: "A member of staff at an East Riding school is currently suspended pending an investigation.

"We will not be making any further statement until the investigation has concluded."

Philip Holmes, assistant director of children and young people's services, added: "The school has acted swiftly and appropriately to deal with this issue."
