Girl's body found in street

A crime scene tent covers the spot where the body was found Murder detectives are studying CCTV footage from a pub after the body of a teenage girl was found in a Manchester street.

The street in Harpurhey was sealed off after the discovery of the body in Hendham Vale on Wednesday night.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out to establish exactly how she died but it is thought the victim had been battered to death.

On Thursday Greater Manchester Police issued a description of the girl, aged in her late teens or early 20s, in a bid to identify her.

The body was found just after 2200 GMT and forensic experts have been examining the scene opposite Westmere Drive.

Slim build

A tent has been erected over the spot where the body was found and detectives have carried out door-to-door inquiries.

Local residents said the area was quiet, although it is often used to dump rubbish and stolen cars.

The girl who died was of slim build, with dark shoulder-length wavy hair.

She was wearing a black bomber-style jacket with white stripes on the waistband and cuffs, a black Elle top, blue denim jeans and black suede calf-length boots.

Witnesses or anyone who thinks they know who she is should contact the major incident room at Collyhurst police station or ring Crimestoppers.
