Burglar attacks 92-year-old woman

A burglar assaulted a 92-year-old woman after breaking into her house in Greater Manchester.

The man pushed the woman to floor, threatened to break her arm and tried to pull off her wedding ring in what police say was a "shocking robbery".

The pensioner was woken by the burglar early on Wednesday.

He ransacked her home in Prospect Road, Oldham, stealing jewellery and money. The woman was found crying on her doorstep by a neighbour.

She has had hospital treatment for arm injuries.

'Unforgivable'

Det Sgt Liz Hopkinson, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This was a shocking robbery on an elderly and vulnerable woman who has understandably been left very upset.

"Not only did the offender steal cash, but he also physically assaulted a frail old woman which is unforgivable. I hope he is ashamed of his disgusting behaviour."

The robber is described as dark-skinned with black hair and was wearing dark clothes.

The jewellery stolen includes three gold rings. One is an eternity ring with diamonds all the way round, one is a cluster ring with raised diamonds and the other was a plain band with the initials MW.
