City alcohol service wins funds

Alcohol

An Aberdeen alcohol support service which has been threatened with closure is to have its funding secured until the end of the year.

The scheme at Albyn House, which offers a bed to people rather than hospital or a police cell, faced an uncertain future due to council cutbacks.

Now the city's alcohol and drugs action team is to invest £50,000 to allow the service to continue.

Its long-term security will not be decided until an audit is published.

Albyn House had £140,000 of funding cut by Aberdeen City Council on the grounds it was underused.
