Disabled factory 'secures future'

A factory which employs blind and disabled staff has secured new premises and had its business plan approved.

Glencraft, in Aberdeen, faced closure earlier this year after the city council decided to cut its subsidy.

Its board of governors has now approved a new business plan which it is hoped will "transform the business into a sustainable social enterprise".

A statement on behalf of Glencraft said: "This exciting new era will see the business move to modern premises."

Glencraft, an independent charity which employs dozens of blind and disabled people, is involved in the furniture trade.

The statement explained: "Work continues to resolve some key issues but hopefully Glencraft and their workforce are at last emerging from a very difficult period in their long history of providing both meaningful employment and quality products.

"This good news coincides with Glencraft recently receiving one of its largest orders for over 1,200 mattresses from a nationwide accommodation provider."
