  Hunting should NOT be banned
Updated 01 July 2003, 10.48

MPs have voted for a total ban on fox hunting but the bill now must pass through several more stages if it is to become law.

In Aley's report the case for not banning fox hunting is argued.

"Fox hunting in the countryside is a way of life.

It may seem cruel to people from areas not used to the sport, such as urban areas like London.

They see it totally differently to us, because we think that it is better than having the foxes shot at random by passing farmers.

Easily and simply

The farmers benefit from the hunters because the foxes are kept off their land, and the hunters get to hunt on the farmers' land - it all works very easily and simply.

Hunting takes place regularly where I live and there are no protests.

I agree, it may seem cruel to some people, that the foxes are living happily until the hunters decide to have some 'fun' as you may say, but it isn't like that at all.

Loss of jobs

The foxes are pests, they attack livestock and do damage to valuable animals.

Jobs are involved around hunting too, so what damage would you be doing to people who may not be able to find another job?

Not for fun

The countryside has a unique and ancient way of life. Don't spoil it by ruining one of our traditions that's helped the country and is not just merely a sport for fun.

Under control

You should think before judging our ways of life compared to others in cities.

We aren't recklessly hunting the countryside to be free of foxes, we just want to keep it under control."
