My photo won a top prize

Lucy with judge Matt Baker

Press Packer Lucy entered the RSPCA Photographer of the Year competition and won the People's Choice Award with a photo of her pet lizard.

Here's her story.

"A couple of years ago my dad bought my brother and me a bearded dragon. We named him Steg.

A bearded dragon is a type of lizard which originates from Australia and they make great pets!

In the summer, I was playing around with my dad's camera and took a few good pictures of Steg.

I showed them to my dad and he said they were really good.

I then decided to enter them into the RSPCA Young Photographer of the Year awards.

Really excited

I didn't think I'd get very far, but a few weeks later I got an email saying one of my pictures had made it through to the top 40 in the pet personality category.

I was really excited, but 40 was still a big number and I thought my luck had run out - until I got the second email.

This one said I was in the top 10 and had been entered into a different category, run by the Sunday Express newspaper.

In the paper

This was the People's Choice award and members of the public had to vote for their favourite picture, and the picture with the most votes would be the winner.

This was the first year the RSPCA had decided to use this category so I was extremely pleased with myself for getting my photograph in the newspaper.

I, however, was up against five other amazing pictures.

I got invited to go to the Tower of London for the awards ceremony which was held in an armoury tower.

There was a small exhibition of all the other photos from all different categories. The standard was extremely high. Matt Baker (ex Blue Peter Presenter) presented the awards.

I was so thrilled to finally get to meet him as I had watched many of his television programmes.

Glass trophy

When it was announced that my photo of Steg had won the People's Choice award, I felt incredible.

I won a gorgeous glass trophy and a beautiful Olympus camera.

I was so proud to have won and I had a fantastic time, it was a very exciting day out."
