Film Review: Shrek Forever After

Shrek and Rumplestiltskin

The stars

All the familiar voices are back in the fourth and final Shrek film. Mike Myers is back as the big, green ogre while Cameron Diaz is Princess Fiona and Eddie Murphy gives Donkey his hilarious voice.

The new bad guy in this film is Rumplestiltskin who wants to be king of Far Far Away.

Lots of the other good characters from the first three films return as well, including Puss in Boots, the Three Little Pigs and the Gingerbread Man.

The Plot

Shrek has a happy life, married to Princess Fiona but he misses the days when the villagers were scared of him as an ogre and he could do whatever he wanted.

He has an argument with Princess Fiona at their babies' first birthday party and runs away. Shrek bumps into Rumplestiltskin who tricks him into swapping his life for one day living as a proper ogre.

The magic creates a new world where Rumplestiltskin's the king of Far Far Away, Princess Fiona and Shrek have never met and the ogres are hunted.

Shrek has to find a way to get back to his normal life, where Far Far Away is a happy place and Princess Fiona is his one true love again.

Best bits

Some of the 3D has been done really well and it's really easy to get caught up in all the action scenes, especially when the witches are zooming around on their brooms.

The best part of the film is seeing the camp where Princess Fiona and the other ogres hide out from Rumplestiltskin. Some of the other ogres are really funny and Shrek makes a fool of himself trying to win over Princess Fiona.

Donkey and the rest of Shrek's friends are all really funny and the trouble they cause at the babies' birthday party is hilarious.

Fave characters

Shrek and Donkey have a great partnership yet again and have some really good jokes together.

The Gingerbread MThe Gingerbread Man is back for this film and still very funny

The Gingerbread Man and Puss in Boots behave differently in Rumplestiltskin's Far Far Away but they are still funny to watch.

Keep an eye out for a new ogre called Cookie. He's a great character has lots of good lines in the film.

Any weak bits?

This isn't as good as the first two Shrek films as there aren't quite as many funny bits.

It's also a bit annoying because in the new Far Far Away Shrek's friends don't know who he is so they don't have as many good jokes together.

Hit or miss?

Definitely a hit. Although it isn't as good as some of the other Shrek films there's plenty to keep you entertained and the 3D action is especially good.
