Turner eyes promotion
Turner is happy with the quality of his squad
Hartlepool boss Chris Turner believes he has the winning formula at Victoria Park to finally secure promotion from Division Three.
Pool have lost out in the play-offs for the last three seasons. But they finished last term as the form side in the division and Turner isn't planning major changes.
He said: "We have a strong squad which has taken three years to build and the way football is going at this moment in time where can I get better players in those positions elsewhere? "All clubs are struggling to bring players in. It would be easy to get players who aren't better than what we've got. I think, though, that we have a quality squad going into the season. "Over the pre-season and season I may bring somebody in, but I think we have players to cover areas and positions for either a 3-5-2 or a 4-4-2. "We had the best home scoring record last season and we were in the top three defensively. The only reason we aren't promoted is because of the first 15 games. "Now we have a quality settled squad I am certain the first 15 games will reap more points than they did last season." Turner bought striker Eifion Williams just before the transfer deadline last season and has re-signed the out-of-contract players he wanted, including top-scorer Gordon Watson. Loan plan And he suggested that if he needs reinforcements he will utilise the change of rules which will allow Nationwide League clubs to increase their quota of loan signings next season. "If during pre-season we feel we do need a bit of improvement or we aren't happy with one or two things, then we will look at the opportunity to bring players in. "We have eight loans per season and we didn't use them that much last year and I think we ought to utilise that more. "I have received the support of (chairman) Ken Hodcroft and (owners) IOR and now feel that we have the right squad for the new season," Turner told the club's website.
