Tiger grins and bears it

Bearing up: Tiger still enjoyed the fishing
Did you hear the one about the Tiger being chased by a bear?

That was the frightening situation Tiger Woods found himself in when he went on a fishing trip with a couple of his golfing pals.

The world number one, bidding for his third successive US PGA title, was with Mark O'Meara and John Cook on Kodiak Island, Alaska, when the incident happened.

It was coming right at us

"We got chased off the river by a nine foot brown bear," Woods explained.

"I had already caught a king salmon and was down by the raft when Mark also landed a king.

"With John's help he dragged the fish along a grassy trail towards the raft up along the bank, when Cookie yells out 'There's a bear'!

"So they try and hurry back across the river.

"There was a pretty good current, so it was going to take a bit and the bear was coming after us because he smelled the trail that Mark had dragged along the ground with the fish.

"It was coming right at us. They got to the raft, threw the fish in and then jumped in themselves.

"If they hadn't got back in time I would have thrown my fish at the bear!"

Despite the fright, the experience hasn't put Woods off his second favourite sport.

"The fishing was incredible and we had a great time," he added.

"We were all right. We're still here."
