Malcolm beats world champion
Christian Malcolm finished second in Switzerland
Christian Malcolm shrugged off part of the disappointment of Edmonton when he finished second in the Zurich Golden League meeting 200m on Friday.
Malcolm went to Zurich looking a very tired man, but still managed to beat Olympic champion Konstantinos Kenteris by 0.04secs in a time of 20.24sec. But both men were eclipsed by Bernard Williams, the world 100m silver medallist well clear of the pair in a winning time of 20.19sec. Malcolm was one of a handful of Britons invited to part in the world's richest meeting - the £1.8million budget always ensuring the best stars appear in the "Weltklasse". After the race, he admitted: "The world championships took an awful lot out of me and I'm still feeling worn out. "The hurt of missing out on a medal is still in my heart, but I've got to keep training and get ready for next year. I can't really complain, I've run some personal bests, so it's looking good for the future." The Welsh track star was delighted with his second in Switzerland, saying: "To come to Zurich and finish second is quite an achievement, so I'm delighted with my run." Colin Jackson was also in action, but he could manage no better than fifth in 13.46 secs behind world champion Allen Johnson.
