Ynystawe have chance of Lord's visit
Lord's is the target for the Ynystawe team
Ynystawe Cricket Club face the biggest day of their lives on Sunday when they play in the semi-finals of the National Village Championships.
And the reward for the Swansea Valley side if they beat St Margaretsbury in the home tie will be a trip to Lord's for the final in September. If Ynystawe were to lift the trophy, they would be the first Welsh side to triumph at the home of cricket since 1981 when St Fagans won. It is going to be a huge occasion for the whole team, including captain David Llewellyn. "I have been in this team for 30 years and if we were to get through it would be the highlight of my career. "There are a lot of boys in their early 20s and they have to take this opportunity because it may not come again." Club chairman Glyn Jones has already seen the side progress further than they have before. "In our 50-year history, we have reached the quarter-finals twice, but never the semi-finals," he said. "This will be the biggest game of all because the prize at the end of it is the final at Lord's. "We have the good wishes of all the clubs in the area and our fingers crossed about the weather. "It really is the biggest day in our history."
