Colvin to join Aussie state side

England spin bowler Holly Colvin has agreed to play for New South Wales in the 2008-09 Australian domestic season.

The 18-year-old from Chichester helped England retain the women's Ashes in Australia last winter.

And she will use her spell with New South Wales as match practice for the Women's World Cup, which takes place in Sydney in March 2009.

"Holly is a young, but incredibly mature cricketer," said Clare Connor, the head of English women's cricket.

"In terms of World Cup preparation, there could be no better opportunity for Holly than joining the New South Wales Breakers squad.

"She will have daily access to every component of the NSW programme including their strength and conditioning coaches, spin bowling expertise, nutrition advice, and physio support should she need it."

Colvin could find herself in opposition to England team-mate Jenny Gunn, who is joining Western Fury in Perth next winter, having previously played for South Australia.

"I think the upcoming season promises to be an exciting one for the Fury and I will be aiming to do my part in helping the team step up and make the finals," all-rounder Gunn commented.

Meanwhile, both players are likely to be back in action for England on 10-11 July, when they play two one-day internationals against West Indies at Loughborough.
