Heskey boost for Birmingham
Emile Heskey
Heskey will partner Mikael Forsell up front for Blues this season
Birmingham's Emile Heskey may face Portsmouth on Saturday after a scan showed his knee injury against Osasuna is not as bad as the club feared.

The England striker, a 6.25m record signing from Liverpool, was taken to hospital after falling awkwardly.

Blues boss Steve Bruce said: "We all feared the worst when he went down.

"When he jarred the knee it went all numb and usually that means something is badly wrong but thankfully there is only soft-tissue damage."

Bruce added: "It is too early to say whether he will be fit for Saturday's game.

"He will receive intensive treatment throughout the week and we'll see how he is."
