Eriksson salutes Richards display
Sven-Goran Eriksson
Man City have a 100% winning League record under Eriksson
Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson saluted Micah Richards after the defender helped his side edge out rivals United in a 1-0 derby win.

Eriksson said: "United could have scored and maybe they should have done but we defended very well.

"Micah was incredible. He is so strong and quick. He was probably the man of match but the whole back line and goalkeeper were fantastic for us.

"We have won and I am very happy - nine points from three games is very good."

Eriksson's side were under the cosh throughout the game at Eastlands but won thanks to Geovanni's deflected goal.

"We were maybe a bit lucky," admitted Eriksson. "I wish we had kept the ball more when we got it.

"But I am sure there is much more to come from this team because we still have players who are not 100% fit and I hope we can sign one or two more players as well by the end of August.

We haven't got the points we expected and we just aren't scoring the goals that we need to at the moment

Owen Hargreaves on Manchester United

"The two targets we have are very clear but we are still trying to get them and there are a lot of other clubs who want them as well."

Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves made his competitive debut for the club and was disappointed things did not go to plan.

"It was a big day for me and definitely not the way I wanted to start," said Hargreaves.

"We expected to win the game, especially when you looked at the flow of the game in the first half.

"We were very comfortable and completely in control. We had the possession and the better chances to get in front and if we had been it would have been a different game.

"We conceded at a time when they weren't threatening at all and they defended very well after that but we definitely had enough chances to win the game."

United have picked up only two points from their first three games of the new season and Hargreaves says a lack of goals is behind their problems.

"In each game we have dominated possession. We have played relatively well but football at this level is about winning games.

"We haven't got the points we expected and we just aren't scoring the goals that we need to at the moment."
