JS Kabylie are the new Algerian champions
|
Former African champions JS Kabylie (JSK) won the Algerian league title on Sunday without kicking a ball after being awarded the points from a cancelled fixture.
A claim by defending champions Entente Setif that they could not play JSK on 18 April on health grounds was rejected by the country's football authorities.
Setif failed to turn up for the game saying their players suffered food poisoning while in Egypt for an Arab Champions League semi-final game.
JSK now have an unassailable 12-point lead over second-placed ASO Chlef with three rounds left.
The club, based in the eastern city of Tizi-Ouzou, is the only Algerian side to conquer Africa twice after successes in 1981 and 1990.
Chlef, defending champions Setif, USMA and USM Annaba are chasing second place and qualification with Kayblie for the 2009 Champions League.
