Mido spent the end of last season on loan at West Ham United
Egypt striker Mido has re-joined Dutch side Ajax on a year-long loan deal, after Middlesbrough sanctioned a move away from the Riverside.
The 27-year-old is reunited with the Amsterdam club for whom he scored 21 goals in 48 games between 2001 and 2003 before joining Marseille for £8.4m.
"We needed an extra striker," Ajax coach Martin Jol said of the player he managed at Tottenham from 2005 to 2007.
"We have limited resources which have to be considered."
The striker arrives at the Amsterdam Arena as a replacement for Serbia international Marko Pantelic, who was released to join Greek side Olympiakos during the summer despite netting 24 goals in 45 games for the Dutch side last season.
Mido has featured for 10 different clubs since starting out in his native country with Zamalek, including Celta Vigo, Roma and West Ham, for whom he spent time on loan during the 2009-10 season.
