Steve Elliott pushed Gillingham to the brink of relegation with a breathtaking equalising goal for Bristol Rovers.
The battling Gills had taken a 38th minute lead when John Nutter powerfully headed in Nicky Southall's far post cross from the right.
Rovers could have been three up in the early stages, but wasted their chances in another poor home display.
But big Rovers centre-back Elliott unleashed a tremendous 25-yard volley 10 minutes from time to earn a point.
Bristol Rovers goalscorer Steve Elliott told BBC Radio Bristol:
"It was a great strike. I knew as soon as I hit it it was there or thereabouts.
"Most of them end up over the stand, but one in a million ends up in the back of the net and that was today."
"In the end, I think a point was a good result."
