Huddersfield substitute Phil Jevons struck with 13 minutes left to condemn relegated Luton to another defeat.
Chances were few and far between in a dour first half, although Andy Holdsworth should have done better for the visitors from 10 yards out.
Sam Parkin twice went close for Luton before home keeper Dean Brill denied Danny Schofield with a fine save.
The winner came on 77 minutes when Jevons rose highest to power home a header from a Joe Skarz cross.
The win means that Huddersfield finish the season with a six-game unbeaten run under the guidance of caretaker boss Gerry Murphy.
