Macclesfield retained their Football League status with their fifth win in 10 games under new manager Keith Alexander by beating Chesterfield 1-0.
However his latest win was against the balance of play with Chesterfield wasting a succession of chances.
The visitors were made to pay in the 40th minute when youngster Gareth Evans slotted home his seventh goal of the season from the six-yard line.
Evans went close again late on but was denied by Spireites keeper Barry Roche.
Having taken over from Ian Brightwell in late February, Alexander has now steered the Cheshire club clear of relegation with an impressive 17-point haul.
