Zaki's double capped an impressive display from the Egyptian striker
An Amr Zaki brace ensured Wigan picked up their first points of the season as they cruised to victory away at Hull.
The 25-year-old Egyptian stroked home Antonio Valencia's cross for the third and fired in a thunderous drive that cannoned off the bar and over the line.
Wigan went in front as Kevin Kilbane's in-swinging corner was turned into his own net by Sam Ricketts, while Valencia raced clear to double their advantage.
Heskey fired the fourth, before Zaki completed the rout with his second.
The on-loan striker was a constant threat to the Hull defence, who also failed to deal with the impressive Ecuadorian midfielder Valencia.
Steve Bruce had sympathy for Hull
Wigan's poise on the ball was in stark contrast to Hull's direct approach, which is more suited to the football that was on offer when these two teams last met during the 1996-97 season when they were in the fourth tier of English football.
Hull played like they were still scrapping in Football League's basement division as they constantly looked to play the ball long to the isolated Caleb Folan.
Wigan on the other hand were composed and assured and it took them just five minutes to go in front.
Kilbane whipped a corner in low to the near post and in a desperate effort to clear the ball, Ricketts got the slightest of touches to take the ball past Boaz Myhill.
Less than 10 minutes later, things went from bad to worse for the home side as Wigan doubled their advantage.
An incisive breakaway from a Hull corner led to Zaki feeding Valencia who raced clear to coolly slot the ball under the on-rushing Myhill.
The home side upped their game at the start of the second half and Richard Garcia was brilliantly denied by Kirkland after being slid in by Geovanni.
However, they soon found themselves three behind as Valencia's low cross evaded two defenders before finding its way Zaki who netted his third goal of the season.
Wigan were four up as Wayne Brown failed to deal with Chris Kirkland's long punt upfield and his attempted clearance fell kindly for Heskey who made little mistake from a tight angle.
Brown admitted the defeat was a 'harsh reality check'
Hull's misery was complete nine minutes from the end as Zaki saved his best for last to cap an impressive display.
He received the ball just inside the area and unleashed an unstoppable shot that crashed in off the underside of the bar.
Substitute Bernard Mendy had the chance to score a consolation in the dying minutes for Hull but he somehow fired over from five yards.
Hull manager Phil Brown:
"It was a harsh reality check today. Wigan have had five shots on target and scored five goals.
"It's that little bit of detail where you're going to get found out if you're not a million per cent right and today we weren't.
"Wigan's quality was there for all to see and by their own admission they haven't played that well today but that's the Premier League."
Wigan manager Steve Bruce:
"We were unfortunate against West Ham, we were unfortunate against Chelsea, but we've had the rub of the green today which we needed.
"It was fairly comprehensive in the end but it was always going to be a difficult game.
"It's the worst probably we've played but you need that bit of luck. The first goal was a poor corner, a miss-kick, and it ends up going in the back of the net."
