Germany 2-0 Poland

Poland coach Leo Beenhakker
Beenhakker felt his players had played well despite the result

Poland coach Leo Beenhakker said his side had been the equal of Germany for much of the match, despite the 2-0 defeat in their Euro 2008 opener.

Two Lucas Podolski goals swept Germany to victory at the Worthersee Stadion.

"There was a moment in the second half where we were totally dominating the game," said Beenhakker.

"But it was over after the second goal. We played for 70 minutes at the same level as them. The last 20 minutes we want to forget."

Beenhakker said the result would not damage his players' confidence, with matches against Austria and Croatia still to come.

"Everybody was upset about the result and not happy, but we are still in the tournament and that's what it's all about," he said.

"We have three or four days to recover physically and mentally and it's part of being a professional.

"Everybody is a bit upset now. On Monday we will see how the team is, then we will start up again. Knowing these guys are mentally strong and against Austria, they will be ready."
