Gloucester star wins FA Cup award

Gloucester City striker Jack Pitcher has won the first FA Cup "Player of the Round" award of 2007/08 following the first qualifying round.

Pitcher scored all five goals in City's 5-1 victory at Yate Town.

The other contenders for the award were Clevedon Town's Steve Cook, Merthyr Tydfil's Matthew Harris and Selby Town's Adam Mitchell.

Pitcher, who received 58% of the votes on the FA's website, will receive a VIP invitation to the 2008 FA Cup Final.

He will be joined in the "Team of the FA Cup" by a winner from each of the subsequent 10 rounds, up to and including the semi-finals.

As well as the VIP ticket to the Wembley final on Saturday, 17 May 2008, each of the 11 winners will receive a trophy and £500 worth of football equipment for a local school of his choice all courtesy of E.ON.

The final "Team of the FA Cup" for 2006/07 comprised Matt Lewis (Halesowen Town), Gary McPhee (Nuneaton Borough), Byron Bubb (AFC Wimbledon), Paul Booth (Lewes), Kris Commons (Nottingham Forest), Phil Jevons (Bristol City), Jason Puncheon (Barnet), Jamie McAllister (Bristol City), Adam Federici (Reading), Frank Lampard (Chelsea) and Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).

Fans vote for the player of their choice in each round on the Football Association's official website.
