Portadown miss out on IFA League

The IFA Executive Committee has ruled that Portadown's application for the new Invitational League will not be considered as it was submitted late.

It is believed the application was received about 15 minutes after the stipulated deadline of 1600 BST on Monday 31 March.

It is thought that traffic delays were to blame for the late application.

Armagh City were turned down for the new league last week while Larne and Limavady are also out of the running.

The remaining 13 clubs in the current Carnegie Premier League have gained the necessary domestic licences along with First Division side Bangor.

The official announcement of the composition of the new league is expected to be made on 8 May.

Clubs were assessed on league position, attendances, facilities and also provision for women's and youth football.

Portadown have indicated that any comment they will make about the decision will be through their solicitors.
