Partick 1-1 Livingston (5-4 pens)

Alan Archibald scored a sudden-death penalty to take Partick Thistle into the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.

Graham Dorrans put Livingston ahead on 41 minutes with a fine curling shot.

But with seven minutes remaining of the regulation 90, Thistle's Marc Twaddle headed in the equaliser, much to the delight of the Firhill crowd.

The teams could not be separated in extra-time and both keepers saved penalties in the shoot-out before Archibald became the hero for Thistle.

Ian McCall's men now face an away tie against Hibs or Rangers in the last eight.

Thistle applied pressure on the Livingston goal in the early part of the match. Simon Donnelly was through on Livi keeper Colin Stewart on 24 minutes but couldn't find the net, and David Rowson also went close.

The Jags' top scorer Liam Buchanan recovered from a groin injury in time to play, but the Thistle midfield struggled to control the play sufficiently to service their striker.

The match always looked like being a tight affair, with this replay being necessary after the teams drew 0-0 at Almondvale, and only one point separating the sides in the First Division.

Gradually, Livingston took control of the game, and in 29 minutes Northern Ireland under-21 international Jonathan Tuffey made an astonishing triple save.

Stephen Craig had two efforts repelled in quick succession, and his frustration was shared by the luckless Robert Snodgrass.

Tuffey, though, had no chance to perform heroics four minutes before the break.

Graham Dorrans, heading to West Brom in the summer, seized on an error by Alan Archibald in the centre of Thistle's defence.

He controlled the defender's wayward header and curled a shot beyond the reach of the goalie to put the Lions ahead.

Archibald made amends for his error at the Livingston goal when he intervened with a saving challenge on Robert Snodgrass who was racing through on goal.

Thistle won a corner as they desperately sought an equaliser in the final ten minutes of the match. Left-back Marc Twaddle rose to meet Simon Donnelly's corner and levelled the tie.

Livi came closest in the half hour of extra-time but neither side could find the net to prevent the tie being settled by penalties.

Both Colin Stewart and Jonathan Tuffey saved penalties in the shoot-out, which was eventually settled by Archibald's strike.
