Elliott wants to fight for his place at Newcastle

Newcastle United full-back Robbie Elliott has rejected a move to Derby County.

Rams boss John Gregory wanted to sign Elliott on loan with a view to a permanent move to Pride Park.

But rather than link up with former Newcastle team-mates Rob Lee and Warren Barton at Derby, Elliott has opted to stay at St James's Park and fight for his place.

Elliott said: "I told John Gregory and Derby County thanks but no thanks.

"I have been out of the United first team for most of the season but I still think I can do a job here.

"I want to stay and fight for my place," Elliott told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.

Elliott has been restricted to just two Premiership appearances this season with Olivier Barnard holding down the left-back slot in Sir Bobby Robson's side.
