Mariners release defender Whittle

Defender Justin Whittle has been told he can leave Grimsby when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old has made more than 140 appearances for the Mariners since arriving at Blundell Park in June 2004.

But his first-team chances have become increasingly limited, making just two appearances since January 12.

Meanwhile, striker Danny North has had his contract automatically extended by two years after activating a clause in his deal by making 30 starts this term.
