Fans give Bates cautious welcome
Ken Bates
Bates has sealed his takeover of Leeds
Ken Bates' takeover of Leeds has been cautiously welcomed by supporters on the BBC's 606 message boards.

Most fans said they were relieved that the threat of administration and a 10-point deduction had been averted.

But there was also some concern that Bates may be too eager to get Leeds back into the Premiership and repeat the club's past mistakes.

And while many were encouraged by his achievements at Chelsea some questioned whether his long reign was a success.

Here is a selection of the comments found on the 606 message boards.

I have mixed feelings. Relieved the immediate threats have gone. Anxious as to how Ken Bates will run the club. Fear he may run it like he did Chelsea and we go back to boom or bust. Hope for some stability. Wonder who has the other 49%.

I just hope he doesn't chase a return to the Premiership too hard. I'd rather go up in a couple of years knowing we could stay there than become a yo-yo club.

We had no choice, He's got a lot to prove but let's hope this is good for the future and not judge him before he does anything.

We should embrace the bearded one - he's already worth 10 points. It's now time to turn things round on the pitch

As a Leeds fan who has had the worst two years of his supporting life, if Ken Bates can achieve a quarter of what he did at Chelsea then I'll be happy. I'm just relieved that it looks like we can now avoid going into administration.

Given the potential strengthening of the squad with Bakke and Johnson nearing a first-team return, who knows given a good run we may even sneak a play-off place. Let's hope at long last the corner is turned. Let's give credit as well to Gerald Krasner and his team for saving the club from extinction.

Boom and bust is surely better than the current situation of bust and bust. I've always been suspicious of the various consortia claiming to be diehard Leeds fans. In my opinion that was the problem with Ridsdale et al - they were so busy being football fans they forgot to be businessmen.

Ken Bates has a record of making some money out of a football club, so lets see what he can do.

I would like to thank Krasner and Co for getting us this far. The roller coaster will continue but thanks for keeping us alive. Hopefully Bates will bring Trevor Birch back and let us buy a striker. Let's have a big turn out for next home match.

I'm no fan of Ken Bates but then again I'm no fan of administration and Third Division football.

One thing though, all the pundits are saying how he turned Chelsea around. I think they should check their facts. Until the Russian stepped in Chelsea were 90m in debt and in no better a position than we found ourselves in with Ridsdale at the helm.

Now we'll see some more cash come rolling in! Leeds Utd (since relegation) have sold over 200,000 replica shirts throughout the world - and that's good considering that Leeds fans are not renowned for wearing their colours! Are we a commodity/brand? Well the answer is Yes! We're too big for this league and we'll be back where we truly belong!

Let's wait and see. He wouldn't be my top choice of person to come in as chairman, although beggers can't be choosers. I guess we should give him a chance before passing judgement.

I think it's good news. Bates always fought Chelsea's corner and we need someone to do the same for us. He bought Chelsea for a pound and look at them now. I just hope he doesn't throw too much money at it too soon. We're in the process of rebuilding and that has to continue.
