Macclesfield Town have completed the signing of experienced midfielder David Flitcroft, and immediately appointed him as their new captain.

Flitcroft, 29, has signed a two-year deal at the Moss Rose after leaving Rochdale earlier this summer.

"He is a born leader and a vocal and competitive player out on the pitch," said Town boss David Moss.

"He will be a vital cog in our wheel next season. His enthusiasm will be infectious both to the other players and the fans," Moss told his club's official website.

Flitcroft started over 150 games for Rochdale after joining the club from Chester City four years ago.

Striker Martin Carruthers, recently signed from Scunthorpe, will be the Silkmen's new vice-captain.
