Morecambe captain Jim Bentley thinks the club's first season in the Football League can be regarded as a success.

Although the Shrimps missed out on the League Two play-offs, Bentley accepts it has been a learning curve as they prepare to host Lincoln on Saturday.

The 31-year-old central defender told BBC Radio Lancashire: "We're all trying and pulling in the right direction.

"It's not been too bad when you look at how things have gone. But we just want to finish the season off strongly."

You want to stake your claim because you want your position for next season

The Shrimps go into their final home game against the Imps on Saturday in 10th place and Bentley feels the players deserve credit for motivating themselves throughout the season.

"Motivation is not a problem and we're up for it in the last two games.

"People are paying good money to come and watch us so we don't want to turn in poor performances."

A number of players are out of contract during the summer, and Bentley realises they are all playing for their future.

"There are lads playing in the reserves who have done very well and there are one or two in the first team who are looking to impress.

"But it's the lads who are on contract too because there will be changes. So you want to stake your claim because you want your position for next season."
