Jamie Hammond at Scunthorpe is hoping they can bounce back

Scunthorpe United chief executive Jamie Hammond has promised fans the club will do all they can to return to the Championship following relegation.

Saturday's defeat at Crystal Palace confirmed the Iron's demise after just one season.

Hammond told BBC Look North: "It's early days but we've go to give it a right go next season.

The club have fourteen players still contracted and Nigel Adkins looks set to stay as the manager of the club.

Hammond explained: "At the moment we've 14 players in contract and so we're just looking to build the squad for next season."

The management at Scunthorpe believe they have every right to look forward. Hammond said: "Look at Southend and what they've done this season."

Southend were relegated last season and are now fifth in League One, on course for the promotion play-offs.
