Shanghai, China

China has used the Shanghai track as a showpiece to demonstrate its status as a major player in the modern world
Location: Shanghai, China
Date: 19 October
Length: 3.387 miles
Rating (out of 10): 5
China planned the Grand Prix track in Shanghai as a showcase statement to demonstrate that the country had arrived as a player on the world stage.

The spectacular venue has raised the bar for facilities, and the layout draws praise from drivers, who say it contains a little bit of everything.

Yet it remains no match for the great historic tracks such as Spa and Suzuka.

Even with all the money in the world, there is a limit to what is possible on a flat piece of former marshland.
