Monkerhostin had the win put on a plate after Our Vic's late fall
|
Monkerhostin took victory in the Bonusprint Gold Cup at Cheltenham after pre-race favourite Our Vic fell at the last fence on Saturday.
The Philip Hobbs-trained horse looked to be settling for second after attacking in the home stretch, before a lapse in concentration from Our Vic gifted the victory to the 4-1 third favourite.
Thisthatandtother was seven lengths behind back in second, while Europa took third in the two mile five furlongs race.
Farmer Jack made the early running in an incident-packed race, before Scots Gray and Armaturk took up the pace at the front of the 12-horse field.
Massac and Redemption both fell at the fourth fence, as 11-4 favourite Our Vic steadily worked his way into contention alongside Farmer Jack.
Our Vic gradually wound up the pace and looked to have the race at his mercy once Farmer Jack had fallen.
But a brave attack from Monkerhostin, with Richard Johnson in the saddle, paid off when Our Vic took a tumble.
In the lBula Hurdle, favourite Back In Front took victory ahead of Inglis Drever.
But it was a disappointing outing for Rooster Booster, who trailed home fourth after leading for most of the race.
