Andy Kelly hopes Dewsbury will go from strength to strength despite parting company with the club on Tuesday 'by mutual consent'.
Kelly left the Tetley's Stadium after four years in charge, in which time he guided the club to promotion to National League Division One in 2006.
"I'm very disappointed to be leaving," Kelly exclusively told BBC Radio Leeds.
"It's been a successful time and if a change brings better results for the club then the decision is right."
Kelly's last match in charge was on Sunday when the Rams, who have lost all their six league games this season, crashed out of the Challenge Cup, beaten 58-12 at home by Division Two side Oldham.
