Newcastle Falcons have announced that England Saxons winger John Rudd has signed a new one-year deal.

The 26-year-old has made 52 appearances in two seasons since joining the club from Northampton Saints in 2006.

"I have enjoyed my spell at Newcastle so far, and I'm looking forward to extending that time," he said.

Acting director of rugby, Steve Bates, said: "John provides a big physical presence in our back line with the way he plays the game."

Bates added: "He gives us variety behind the scrum and plenty of go-forward with his direct running style.

"John is an excellent professional with a fantastic attitude and it is great news for the club that he will remain with Newcastle Falcons for next season."
