Kaneria 'committed to Pakistan'

Danish Kaneria

Essex's Danish Kaneria has reiterated his commitment to Pakistan after it was reported he was considering playing for the English national side.

He told the Essex website: "I did not say that I wanted to stay over here and qualify to play for England. I still want to play for Pakistan.

"If Pakistan didn't select me for three or four years in a row, only then would I consider coming here permanently."

The 27-year-old leg-spinner has so far taken 220 wickets in 51 Test matches.

"My priority is with Pakistan for as long as they need me "

The Karachi-born cricketer has been in outstanding form for Essex since returning for his fourth season with the club.

Kaneria has taken 24 wickets in the LV County Championship and 18 wickets in the Twenty20 Cup.

He added: "My priority is with Pakistan for as long as they need me in Test cricket. In fact, I am always there for them in any form of the game - Pakistan has given me the name to be playing cricket in England."
