Somerset County Cricket Club are to host the inaugural women's event at the ICC World Twenty20 competition in 2009.
The group matches will be played in Taunton, while the semis and final will held at The Oval, Trent Bridge and Lord's before the men's competition.
Tournament director Steve Elworthy told BBC Points West: "We were very proud at the way Somerset positioned themselves and it was a superb application."
Taunton was named as the permanent home of the England women's team in 2006.
England have recently completed their most successful tour of the Southern Hemisphere, retaining the Ashes against Australia and beating New Zealand in a one-day series, and captain Charlotte Edwards is looking forward to playing the Twenty20 World Cup on home turf.
"It's going to be an exciting summer," she told BBC Points West. "Personally it's my favourite ground, I've always done reasonably well here, so we're hoping to continue that.
"It's a great place to play cricket, the crowd's brilliant, and we're always made to feel really welcome in Taunton so we're looking forward to coming back."
Somerset chairman Andy Nash feels hosting the event is a wonderful opportunity for the county and the whole of the South West.
"We hope the legacy of this, because it's a true global event, is that many more women and girls will end up playing this great game of ours.
"There's a 47% increase in the number of women and girls playing cricket in the last five years and I'm sure that this Twenty20 coming up is going to be far and away the most successful cricket event ever."
