Former champions edge through

The African Champions League trophy

Four former African Champions qualified for the group stages of the Champions League with aggregate wins on Sunday.

Asec Mimosas of the Ivory Coast managed a 1-1 draw in Morocco with Olympique Khouribga and that saw the Ivorians progress on the away goals rule.

N'Doua Kouakou got the all important away goal for Asec in the 23rd minute with Abdelfateh Triki grabbing the equaliser for Khouribga midway through the second half.

Zamalek of Egypt lost 2-1 to InterClube in Angola but the five-times champions still advance with a 4-2 aggregate win.

Gamal Hamza put the tie beyong the Angolans with a goal after just 15 minutes before two second-half goals from Domingos Fernandes gave InterClube the victory.

TP Mazembe of the DR Congo beat visiting Al Ittihad of Libya 2-0 to give them a 3-2 win overall.

Ngoy Bomboko and Mvete Luyeye were on target for Mazembe.

Fans of Egypt's Al Ahly had to wait until the second-half to see their side score the goals that beat Platinum Stars of South Africa 2-0 in the second leg and that gave the Cairo team a 3-2 aggregate win.

Emad Moteab opened the scoring with a goal five minutes after the break Angolan Flavio sealed the win in the 69th minute.

South Africa's other representatives Mamelodi Sundowns also crashed out despite winning 1-0 at home against Al Hilal of Sudan, who progress 4-3 on aggregate.

The only goal of the game was scored by Surprise Moriri just after the half-time break.

The draw to split the eight clubs into two groups will be held on 17 May in Yaounde, Cameroon

The losers will play the in the Confederation Cup to decide who plays in the group stages of that tournament.
