Plymouth 1-2 Charlton

A late brace from Leroy Lita earned Charlton victory at Plymouth and kept their play-offs hopes alive.

Charlton were down to 10 men as keeper Nicky Weaver was sent off for handball and Plymouth nearly made them pay when Paul Wooton forced a save.

The home side looked stronger and deservedly went ahead when Jermaine Easter converted Gary Teale's header.

But the lead was short-lived when Lita headed home and grabbed a second with some link-up play with Chris Iwelumo.

  • Plymouth boss Paul Sturrock backed Argyle goalkeeper Luke McCormick after his mistakes:

"This game will be remembered for two goalkeeping errors.

"But this goalie of ours has had a fantastic season. He was disappointed with his performance but he will live to fight another day.

"Hopefully he will be better for the experience and he will appreciate that keepers make these kind of mistakes."

  • Charlton manager Alan Pardew:
"To lose the goalkeeper was a real test of our character and the players deserve all the plaudits - they were outstanding.

"We felt relatively comfortable at half-time although we were a man short, we felt we controlled the proceedings.

"It was a simple scenario we had to win. We had a threat with Lita all day and he got both goals."
