Port Vale's relegation to League Two was confirmed after a goalless draw against managerless Huddersfield.
Visiting striker Andy Booth came close to scoring after 30 minutes when his header from Andy Holdsworth's cross was blocked on the line by Simon Richman.
Chris Brandon thought he had scored when he latched onto Nathan Clarke's header but he was deemed offside.
Danny Whitaker and substitute James Lawrie rallied late on for Vale but both snatched at easy chances.
