Paatelainen: Hibs deserved to win

Hibernian manager Mixu Paatelainen Mixu Paatelainen said he was proud of his side after their draw with Rangers in the Scottish Cup at Easter Road.

However, the Hibernian manager felt that on the balance of play his team should have finished the tie off.

"I thought we had enough chances to win. They also had chances to nick it, but it certainly wasn't a boring nil-nil," the Hibs manager said.

"Our young team did really well today, they defended solidly and attacked well. Unfortunately it wasn't to be."

Paatelainen, in his third match since taking over as manager of Hibernian, watched his team have two efforts cleared off the line, as well as Steven Fletcher be denied by a fantastic Alan McGregor save.

"These are the matches you enjoy watching, although a couple of goals would have helped, for us," Paatelainen said.

"Rangers are a fantastic team - very strong with quality players."

"I thought we had more chances than them, But there's no point in counting your chances, you have to count your goals."

And the Hibs boss also paid tribute to his captain, Rob Jones, who played through the pain barrier.

"He got a very heavy knock form Lee McCulloch early on. But he's a determined defender, so full-hearted, and he does everything for the team.

The tie will now be concluded at Ibrox, with the winner having a home quarter-final match against either Livingston or Partick Thistle.

However, there is still no indication as to when the replay will be allowed to take place.

"Just give us a date and we'll be ready, " added Paatelainen.
