Miller set to stay at Pittodrie

Lee Miller

Aberdeen striker Lee Miller has agreed new terms with the club and will remain at Pittodrie.

It follows weeks of speculation regarding the 24-year old's future after the player pondered his next move for several weeks.

The former Falkirk and Dundee United player is one of only a handful of current out-of-contract squad members to survive a summer clear-out.

Manager Jimmy Calderwood is in the process of rebuilding his side.

Miller arrived from Tannadice on a free transfer in August 2006 and has now signed on for a further two years.

"I think with Lee signing this is probably one of the most important things for Aberdeen this summer"

Former Kilmarnock midfielder Gary McDonald has already been secured for next season after a spell at Oldham with Barry Nicholson departing after three seasons.

Miller was delighted to have secured his short-term future.

"I'm really happy to be staying with Aberdeen for 2 years as I am very settled here and I am really enjoying playing football with this side at the moment," he told the Dons' website.

"It has taken me a bit of time to come to this decision as I had to weigh up my other options in different places but the decision has been made and I am an Aberdeen player for the foreseeable future."

Calderwood was equally happy to have held on to his prized asset but issued a warning that Miller may not be around to see out the entire contract.

"I think with Lee signing this is probably one of the most important things for Aberdeen this summer as we have a huge rebuilding project and Lee is a huge factor in this," he said.

"Lee has been absolutely tremendous for us this season and I really think it may be hard for us to keep on to him after the two years are up.

"It might possibly hard for us to keep on to him for the entire two years.

Will Lee Miller be an important figure for the Dons next season?

"If he can build on what he has done this season and get a good partnership with some of the other strikers we have here then it is a big positive for the club."

Meanwhile, Dons' on loan duo Sone Aluko and Josh Walker will not feature in the club's final game of the season.

Title-chasing Rangers are due at Pittodrie next Thursday but the midfielders, on loan from Birmingham and Middlesbrough respectively, are on England under 19 duty.

Both players' loan deals expire at the end of the campaign although Calderwood has said he would be keen to bring them back for another season.
